Hi,
I have a requirement to share a dataset and a report built on it to different workspaces. Can I limit users' edit right in the workspaces to which I distribute/share? However, I do want to give users edit ability on the dataset within their own workspaces? Is there a solution to this scenario sharing datasets in app workspaces rather than via content pack as it will be deprecated in the new future?
Thanks in advance!
Hello !
I think there is a bug when I want to apply a Row Level Security filter on a Dashboard shared on a workdspace using the USERPRINCIPALNAME() on a dimension.
If the Report is Shared on a Specific Workspace the RLS doesn't work ... Whereas if I publish the Report to My Workspace and Share it ...Then the RLS works ...
Would you now why?
Thank you for your help !
Loïc

Hi Folks,
I have been struggling to get the gateaway running. I found out, it's because of ports are blocked here. So I consulted with the network team and they informed me to used the proxy. I followed the following article, but I coulnd't find the location and the files mentioned that need modifcation. I have installed "On-Premises Data Gateway (Personal Mode)" version 14.16.6549.2.

One thing, in the following guide, I found that there's a windows service which I couldn't find in my server.

Appreciate, if anyone can help.

Can anyone give me some idea/guidance about how do I set up IT Governed rules for publishing content to Power BI Service
Hi,
I encounter this error after publish a desktop normal report to the website.
One of the visual can not show normally while other peer visual look fine.
The data source of the report consume a SQL view which have only 27771 records and the data is connected in DirectQuery mode.
My question is, why only one of the visual cannot be diplayed normally? The whole report comes from a same SQL view.
This visual has exceeded the available resources. Try filtering to decrease the amount of data displayed.
Please try again later or contact support. If you contact support, please provide these details.
I am new to Power BI
I recently connected it with our Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online with the built in connection tool.
I am noticing my data is incorrect for example one of the tiles says open oppotunities but it it showing closed opportunites in the tile.
I tried to filter this but there is not filter for open oppotunities in the tile.
Can you please help me on editing these tiles?
I have built a dashboard that draws data from an Azure SQL database. Several customers' data is stored in the same SQL. I would like to be able to share this dashboard with customers outside my organization, but I only want them to be able to view their own data, not the data of other customers. I investigate row-level security, but it seems this is incompatible with sharing outside of my organization. I also researched sharing a filtered URL, but by changing the URL, a user granted guest access to the app workspace where the dashboard was created can alter or remove this filter. I suspect a solution may be found by embedding the dashboard in a web app or publishing it as an app - I would prefer not to develop a web app as I am completely unexperienced in this.
What would be the best way to: (1) create a login/password system that alters the query or filters on the dashboard based on who logs in OR (2) create a secure and shareable URL that displays the dashboard filtered to display only one customer's data? It can be assumed that the customer will be a Power BI Pro user, but not a member of my same organization.
Hi,
I have developed a Power BI report for my client.
It is based on a DirectQuery fo SAP HANA.
The report works great when I publish it in my company domain but it is not working in the clinent domain.
I have checked the logs from my and client gateway and the SQL code is different!
How is this possible?
The only different between my domain and clients domain is the address of the SAP HANA server.
The problem is that when i create two visuals based on the same table but two different columns, when i click on one visual i get an error on the other. This is due to some bug in the SQL generation.
How is this possible?
Regards
I've read a few older posts about this, but just wanted ot get the latest thinking. Basically I know i can use BI publisher to output tables of data form my model, but only if I open the workbook and press refresh. Is there any method such as using R (whch I have no experience of) to export tables of combined data to say a csv file on a schedule or even just once a day after the data has refreshed?
Really idiot thoguht but could the model I have already working using Publisher be set to autofresh and do a copy paste to a file using just a VB macro? Obviously the workbook would have to remain open the whole time.
Thnaks
Mike
Since installing version 14.16.6524.1 of the On-premises Data Gateway junk folders are being created in the root of the C-drive.
Example of folder names.

qm9Qg+sec8ZLmfBWwguPHlctN1tjKm+TX

Everyday 2-4 folders are created. They always contain the same items. All items are owned by PBIEgwService.
Folder: Index (Empty)
Folder: Temp (Empty)
File: Cache.Key
I have two servers that I installed this version on. Only one has this issue. The scheduled data refeshes are working on both servers.
Is anyone else having this issue or know a resolution for it?
Hi I have a scenario where we have uploaded a PowerBI desktop report to a App Workspace. Then from the Power BI web service we have created 10+ reports of the single data source that was uploaded. This App Workspace is now used in production.
Now we made some changes to in the datasource. We know that we can just reupload the Power BI desktop report with the updated changes and overwrite the dataset in the Power BI Service, but that would risk breaking the 10+ reports that are using the current dataset.
So the question is:
Is there any easy way to test this updated dataset withot needing to recreate the 10+ reports in a new test workspace?
Is there some way to change a web reports datasource to another dataset?
The only solution I have found is to Published the updated Power BI Desktop report with a new name (so it creates a new dataset) and the recreate a report from scrath on the web with the new dataset. But recreating 10+ reports without being able to copy paste just for testing is a real pain.
I'm out of ideas, hoping some gurus here can help me out.

We are getting the following error when we run a report against Teradata. Some of the queries are running fine. The gateway is established and it was working fine. These reports were developed 2 months back and until now there is no issue with these reports. It is seems PBI is passing the wrong SQL statments to teradata with syntax errors in it.
Get the following error from PBI and we see the missing SQL statement like "(" and some missing joins etc,
Syntax error, expected something like a name or a Unicode delimited identifier or an 'UDFCALLNAME' keyword or a 'SELECT' keyword or '(' between '(' and the 'UNION' keyword.
Any help would grealtly apprecited.
Thanks
Pani
Is there a nice way to stop a scheduled refresh for when a table is empty?
I've noticed it will wipe out data on the refresh when a problem occurs in a data warehouse table.
I was considering introducing a schema change when I know a data warehouse table has failed to load so that power bi won't lose the previous days data.
How is everyone else handling this situation?
I am trying to change the time zone on the pro service to PST so relative date filtering for the current day's activity is accurate. I followed one of the suggestions at this link http://radacad.com/solving-dax-time-zone-issue-in-power-bi based on other related posts. I created a new blank query in desktop and used the code noted below.
= DateTimeZone.SwitchZone(DateTimeZone.LocalNow(),-8,0)
What am I doing wrong?
What are the backup strategies available for App Workspaces in the Power BI Service,
What would happen if the App Workspace was accidently deleted. Are there any recovery options which don't include taking a backup of the PBIX file.
Could the Workspace be restored to a point in time, including datasets, dashboards, reports and security etc
What are the app workspace backup options within the Power BI Service?
For example is a app workspace was accidently deleted, is there a point in time restore. To cover Dashboards, Reports, Security etc. Or would the consumer need to restore back from the saved PBIX and re-publish the PBIX.
Hi,
I am using Power BI for reporting and I have AWS host in which my database resides. I have installed Data gateway and successfully configured it with Power BI, also I have set data refresh for frequent time interval. But after few hours, I see that data gateway goes offline and does not perform refresh task.
Below screenshot mentiones refresh failed message.
Also I get these emails for refresh failed:
Can anyone please help?
