PowerBI Online Reports are too slow to load

$

Hello,

For roughly a week now, I've been facing the issue of reports on PowerBI Online, loading too slow (What usually took like 1-2 seconds now takes between 15 seconds to 10-15 minutes).

The machine is located in West Europe Azure server and ping rates are between 20-25 ms to where I am.

The only data source I am using is SSAS, which is connected live.

There aren't any measures that could throw the system into a bottleneck.

I've taken a look at Gateway logs and business seems to be as usual.

I've tried a fresh install on both gateway, data source, and dataset, that solved the problem for several days, but now here it is again.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

Direct Query report on SAP HANA - ODBC error after last update

Good Morning,

after the last Power BI Update we are facing some issues with our Direct Query reports based on SAP HANA.

It seems that after the last Update the query execution plan create SQL query with wrong syntax every time we interact with a slicer on a report.

We analyzed the On-Premise Data Gateway logs and we found that SQL query like these raise errors:

SELECT "basetable0"."c97","basetable0"."c98"
FROM
(
(

SELECT "t4"."Esercizio Sales" AS "c96","t4"."Data Sales" AS "c97","t4"."Mese Sales" AS "c98"
FROM
(
(select "DueYear" as "Esercizio Sales",
    "C1" as "Data Sales",
    "DueMonth" as "Mese Sales",
    "DueWeek" as "Settimana Sales"
from
(
    select "DueYear",
        "DueDate",
        "DueMonth",
        "DueWeek",
        cast("DueDate" as DATE) as "C1"
    from "_SYS_BIC"."sap.sbo/SALES_ANALYSIS"
    group by "DueYear",
        "DueDate",
        "DueMonth",
        "DueWeek"
) as "ITBL"
where "C1" >= date'20120101' and "C1" <= date'20181231')
)
 AS "t4"
WHERE
(
"t4"."Esercizio Sales"            =        '2017'
)

GROUP BY "t4"."Esercizio Sales","t4"."Data Sales","t4"."Mese Sales"
)
 AS "basetable0"INNER JOIN
(

(SELECT '2017' AS "c96",'10' AS "c98" )  UNION ALL
(SELECT '2017' AS "c96",'11' AS "c98" )  UNION ALL
(SELECT '2017' AS "c96",'12' AS "c98" )  UNION ALL
(SELECT '2017' AS "c96",'01' AS "c98" )  UNION ALL

(SELECT '2017' AS "c96",'08' AS "c98" )  UNION ALL
(SELECT '2017' AS "c96",'09' AS "c98" )
)
 AS "semijoin1" ON
(

("semijoin1"."c96" = "basetable0"."c96" OR "semijoin1"."c96" IS NULL AND "basetable0"."c96" IS NULL)
                AND
("semijoin1"."c98" = "basetable0"."c98" OR "semijoin1"."c98" IS NULL AND "basetable0"."c98" IS NULL)

)
)

GROUP BY "basetable0"."c97","basetable0"."c98"
LIMIT 1000001

the error occurs at the highlighted statement and seems related to the SELECT statement without FROM clause created by THE Power BI engine which SAP HANA cannot manage.

We are facing the same issue in Power BI Desktop

How is it possible?

Daily Refresh Schedule Entries Seems To Have reduced

Has the number of refresh schedules that you can add for a dataset changed. I had about 11 set up, now just checking after an outage only the first 8 are present?

I have a tv in the office displaying a dashboard of lab performance data throughout the day and needs to be as up to date as it can. But if I only have 8 refresh schedules I can not refresh once an hour for a working day.

ShareDatasets between different workspace

Hi,

It's is possible share datasets between different workspace?

In my organization we need to share the same datasets with different groups of developers.

Create and share a content pack it’s not a solution: the users can may a copy of content pack and then do their reports however the information presents in datasets will not update (there is a dataset with gateway connection and update daily and we pretend share this datasets)

Create a app workspace it’s a possible solution found however we can’t control who create or modify the existing reports.

For example, we have sales department, logistics department and production department, the reports create by developers of sales department could be seen by logistics department or production department, but these departments could not modify the report.

On the other hand, developer of logistics department would create their own reports about the same datasets.

How I can do this?

Drill Through Function not Working in MS Teams

Hi all,

I am just published a report set from Power BI Desktop into Service and then created a tab in MS Teams to display the report to my stakeholders. The report looks fine and works in any other way except you cannot right-click on any fields and therefore you also cant drill through the reports.

Its worth noting the reports work perfectly in Desktop and Service just not in teams. I also noticed that the drill-through filters aren't shown in teams on the filter bar. I had published a similar report yesterday and it worked fine. Unfortunately that tab is deleted so I cant try it to see if it still works.

I have tried
- closing and opening teams
- rebooting my laptop
- recreating the tab in teams
- deleting the reports and datasets in Service and republishing from Desktop then relinking to teams

Basically anything not technical I have tried. I'd appreciate any other trouble shooting advice you can offer.

For what its worth I will also try a teams community as I am seeking an urgent resolution.

Thanks in advance!

I've been using the free version of Power BI Desktop and it has been great for me. I'm starting to show my company the benefits of using this and had a quick question on sharing dashboards. I know that I would need a pro license to be able to share the dashboard with others but would all the users in our building need a pro license as well even just to view the dashboards I've shared? They would not be sharing their own just veiwing what I've created and shared.

Rolling Averages that Span over Years

$

Previously I had asked a question about 6 week rolling averages.

The formula provided by v-ljerr-msft worked perfectly....until the start of the new year.  What is the best way to implement this same average formula while being able to cross over to a new year. My date table has a date Index if that helps.

Here is the formula used for the average:

# 6 week Avg =
VAR selectedWeekNum =
    MAX ( 'Date'[WeekNumber] )
VAR currentDayName =
    FIRSTNONBLANK ( 'Date'[DayName], 1 )
RETURN
    (
        (
            CALCULATE (
                SUM ( CustomerList[Orders] ),
                FILTER (
                    ALLEXCEPT ( CustomerList, CustomerList[Customer] ),
                    WEEKNUM ( CustomerList[OrderDate] )>= selectedWeekNum - 6&& WEEKNUM ( CustomerList[OrderDate] ) < selectedWeekNum&& 'Date'[DayName] = currentDayName
                )
            )
        )
            / 6
    )
        + 0

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I have imported data to Power BI from Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, Business Edition.  I was able to get data from all sources from Dynamcis 365 for Finance and operations, business edition except Sales.  I am using Power BI online.  I get the following error:

Bookmark specific slicer and email subscribe?

$

Is it possible to bookmark specific filters or slicers and then subscribe to an email with that configuration?

For example:  We have managers who want to be emailed daily to show their call center stats, but of course, they only want to see THEIR team's stats, not the entire call center.... how can I achieve this?

There is a slicer/filter by manager name on the report that I would want to set.

Thanks!!!

Hi,

When i logon to PowerBI in the top right corner it shows me logged on as vitru@microsoft.com but when i go to my datasets they are listed as owned by vitaly.rubtsov@microsoft.com and it offers me to "Take over" the configuration. When i click "Take over"

nothing happens - the dataset stays owned by vitaly.rubtsov@microsoft.com and i can't change it.

This started happenning just recently.

Users being asked to upgrade to Pro when they (supposedly) have a Pro license

$

Hello all,

I've been asked to troubleshoot a licensing issue with Power BI but I'm not all that knowledgeable about that aspect of things.  I created a dashboard and allowed access for several users to view it.  I'm told that these users do have a Power BI Pro license (although I can't confirm myself, don't know how or maybe don't have access?) but when they're trying to view the dashboard/app the entire screen is greyed out and there's a messagebox stating:

"Upgrade to Power Bi Pro - the content is only available to users with a Power BI Pro license.  Upgrade today to get access to collaborate with others and distribute content." Along with Upgrade Account and Cancel buttons.

How would I go about confirming their licenses are setup and applied properly?  Again, I don't have access to the users' AD accounts or anything (I just create dashboards) so I need to know how to instruct someone with the right access on how to confirm things are set up properly so they can leverage their Pro licenses.

Thanks for the help!

Problems with date format when publishing from desktop to service

$

Hi guys

Since the most recent update (I think) I'm having issues when publishing from Desktop to Service. On Desktop my drop down slicer date looks like this: "December 2017" however, once it gets published it looks like this: "Fri Dec 01 2017 00:00:00 GMT.......". Weirdly this is only temporary because as soon as you click on the drop down all the dates are presented in the correct format again.

Has anyone seen this issue before? Any ideas? I'm stuck!

Cheers

Power Bi Premium Capacity Create fails and uses a core

When creating Power BI capacities and you encounter a failre which states to retry again later.  The actual failure consumes however many cores you were allocating and does not give them back (at least not in 24 hours), seems to require a support call to get the unused cores back.

Problems sharing to external user

I've created dashboards for an external client, but i'm having access trouble.  We pushed it in an App and the original external participants have no issue with access.  I've gone to add another which is where i've run into trouble.  Access to the App on my end worked fine, but he still sees nothing but a blank screen.  I'm assuming it's because I haven't granted access to the underlying data set.  When I went to do that the "Add" button is greyed out when I enter the email address.  Any thoughts?
