Power BI Apps by Microsoft download pbix file

$

Does Microsoft provide the .pbix files for their published Power BI Apps by Microsoft.  I understand that the download .pbix will be grayed out for anything not published from desktop - however, are the .pbix files available via their online github repository? - codeplex?  Anywhere - what a huge advantage it would be to take a .pbix file - "fork it" with customized enhancements.  It would be critical to see the model to understand how the data is connected - such as the Zendesk power bi app numbers are not matching the reports in Zendesk - ... and I can't even troubleshoot the difference if I don't have access to the data model of that app.  IMO -making these .pbix files available to us would only benefit the overall Power BI adoption in the marketplace.

Create App from "My Workspace"?

$

Good evening community,

I have a couple of issues on which I beg for help!

1. I need some help in my first attempt at publishing an App. I have been doing some searching & watching videos but I cannot seem to publish an App from "My Workspace", and I have tried a number of things.

From what I gather, in order to be able to publish an App, I need to create an App Workspace first. The problem I'm having is that the Dashboards, Reports and Dataset were all created in "My Workspace" and I cannot find a way to "copy" all these into a new App Workspace. I have tried creating a Organisation Content Pack, which I then managed to "import" into a new App Worksapce, but when I then try to publish the app I'm denied the possibility (something to do with not being able to publish an app from an organisation content pack).

So how do I go about creating an App from "My Workspace"? Does it even make sense to replicate the content in a new App workspace in order to be able to publish an App?

2. I created a second report in My Workspace using the dataset already published in a previous report. When I go to publish this new report (from Power BI Desktop), I am not given the option of choosing to which workspace I can publish it: it defaults to the same workspace the original dataset was in (which makes sense), but now that I want to create an app which includes this new report, how do I get to include it in an App Workspace (see issue number 1 above)

Many thanks for your help,

Paul.

Power BI service slow on one account, fast on another

Power BI service is really slow on one account, while the same report runs with normal speed on another account.

The only difference between these two accounts is that the slow account is signed in on the On premises data gatway. The slow account is the administrator of the gateway and the fast account is granted permission to use the gateway.

Could this be the issue and how can we solve this?

PowerBi Subscription Emails not working

Hi All,

I've got strange issue I have started to experience, and I am interested in ideas regarding what the root cause could be.

I have some PowerBI subscriptions configured that deliver some dashboards into my inbox via the standard method with a png attachment - however recently they do notappear to be able to retrieve the data within the model - i.e. there is a pretty standard standard message in the png file that states 'Something went wrong. Unable to load the model'

As this content is embedded - I am unable to view the actual error details any further than this. I have confirmed that I have access to the data via the web - so it doesn't appear to be a permissions issue with the data source (i think).

Many thanks in advance...

Disable Dashboard Tile Redirection

When I pin any visual to my dashboard and click on that tile, it will redirect to my report.

I already used custom link option for redirection to dashboard link.

Please let me know the solution to disable the redirection.

Thanks,

Pankil

OneDrive refresh Disabled

I am not a tech guru, so I appreciate any help you can give me. I am grasping at straws trying to solve the issue I am experiencing. I have worked with Power BI online(app) for the last 6 months or so.   The dashboards I have set up are connected to a single sharepoint site, containing excel files within my company.  The excel files are used to record work of field employees.  I currently have 4 dashboards, linked to 4 different files.  These  dashboards refreshed very well in the beginning and worked seamlessly.

Along about mid November we started to experience problems with the refresh on some, but not all of the dashboards.  About this same time, my company went to a two factor authentication, and we had some updates for Power Bi that were slow to install.  I have had one IT person state that this isn't the issue, and another state it is possible that the two factor authentication is the issue.

The error I rec'd stated "One Drive Refresh Disabled".  I can follow links to help topics, but the link takes me to a page that states 404.   I appreciate any help that you can give me.

Issue trying to configure data gateway from a URL source

Hello there.

I am working in a dashboard. My datasource is from two URLs:

https://rhrecruiter.avature.net/PublicLists/uD4y2if4WWjyPlIKxaheSm7iZDRnj5S-

https://rhrecruiter.avature.net/PublicLists/HiR59r73YAM2O9bzNV7mczHZ8kh1_13K

Is it working fine and it updates everytime I refresh from PBI Desktop.

The thing is, i uploaded it to the Power BI Service and I want to configure the Data Gateway. The steps I follow are:

1. Download the on-premise data gateway (not the personal mode) <<Question 1: which one do I use?

2. Sign in with my account

3. Data source settings > add new data source. I created it

4. When I create the data source I used datasource type: Web. Then I paste the URL and authentication mode: Anonimous<< Question 3: Is that ok?

5. When I go apply, it says its Connected as the pic shows:Captura.PNG

Those URL came from a CRM app where it generates both. Each have a table. Do I have to configure the data source from another option, different from "Web"?

The issue comes when I want to select the data gateway i've created.

Settings>Dataset>Data gateway connection> And it never appears, it is always like this:

Captura2.PNG

HELP ME! what can I do?

Thanks

Dashboard performance with push dataset

$

I have some performance issues with dashboards. In my demo setup I have one push dataset. Dataset consists of couple of tables. I push new data to the dataset about once in every two seconds. If I create one dashboard using the push dataset, the dashboard tiles are updating every two seconds when new data is pushed to the dataset so the data is updated almost in real-time. But if create couple of more dashboards, the tiles are updating much slower (e.g. once in every 10 seconds). I have only one dashboard open at the same time. It looks like that PowerBI is updating all existing dashboards even they are not open in any browser/window.

Charts in embedded report are empty or truncated

Hello,

I'm getting some weird behaviour when adding a PowerBI report to an Azure Web app.  The report has a custom page size and contains 3 line charts.  Each chart was originally about 170 px high by 295 wide.  With these dimensions when the webpage loaded the lines in the charts would display for a split second then the charts would refresh and be empty (no line).  I then increased the size of each chart to 220 high by 350 wide.  Now the lines in the charts show up.  However, they get cut off and there is no horizontal scroll bar to see the 'cut-off' part of the line.  I increased the size of the charts again to 250 x 450.  At this size I haven't had an issue with the chart being blank or cut off.  However, I'm only displaying a few dozen data points so far.  The weird thin is that in the PowerBI Server, the charts display just fine.  It's only when they are embeded in a web app that they start behaving in this way.  The reason for the small charts is so that they display on a mobile device without the need to sroll.

Anyone run into this odd chart behavior?  Any suggestions on how to fix it while keeping the charts small?

Migrating existing shared Apps to make use of PBI Premium capacity

Currently, we are exploring the PBI premium features and the implementation details around it.

In the mean while, had this following question - what are the steps that needs to be followed to migrate existing Apps (shared with users) to make use of use PBI Premium capacity. Based on my understanding following are the steps (provided the Premiuim capacity has been set-up and users are assigned to it),

1) Go to the respective work spaces and make them to use the Premium capacity (also can be done at an user level from admin portal as i understnad - but in case if we are to use only specific workspace i beleive this is the option)
2) Re-publish (Update) the App

The above two steps needs to be repeated for all the apps (app work spaces), Is this understnading correct? - or is there any other method or steps that needs to be done.

Hello All,

I have published a report to power BI online from Power BI desktop. Refreshing the data works fine in Desktop but it doesn't work in Power BI online. Gateway is always online as it is installed in a virtual machine which always up and running. Manual refresh or scheduling refresh gives me the below error:

Something went wrong

Here is the setup:

  • QuickBooks Enterprise (desktop)
  • QQube (from Clearify)
  • Excel PowerPivot Workbook (2016)
  • Power Update (free version)
  • Power BI (Desktop and Service)

Report Structure:

  • QQube pulls data from Quickbooks and houses data in a Sybase database for reporting (QQube).
  • The excel powerpivot book - has the actual report data that I need.  This is set to refresh and save using Power Update.
  • The Power BI report (in the PBI Service) is scheduled to refresh at 7:00am

I do know that the PowerPivot Workbook had field name changes (it was a prebuilt workbook built by QQube for simpler reporting).

When I manually refresh the workbook - for a short period, I see the original field names. Once it's done it resumes the changed names. 'Sales Document Other Field'. The original field name is 'SalesTxn Document Other Field'. Several other fields have that 'Txn' added to them originally in the database.

So I know WHAT is causing the error -but I don't know WHY or HOW to get it to stop. If I manually refresh the workbook, and then Power BI file and THEN publish to the Service - everything works fine. No issues whatsoever. It's trying to automatically schedule the refresh from the service when the error occurs.

ANY ideas or assistance with this one would be greatly appreciated.
