OLE DB or ODBC error: [DataSource.Error] MySQL: Fatal error encountered during data read

$

Hello,

In the past week i've gotten the above error message for all my reports when I try to refresh my reports. Each of the reports with this error is attempting to pull data from a mysql server, connected via VPN.

I looked through other posts with this error and tried to play around with the data in power query: checking for incorrect data type or oddities in the steps, but nothing has helped.

I also think this is unlikely to be the issue because the error is with three different reports. I am also able to refresh in the gateway, bypassing the desktop without any issues.

Does anyone have any ideas of where else i might be able to look to deal with this problem?

Thanks

Export to file in power bi embedded

Hi

We are using Power Bi as Embedded and have A3 SKU. We show reports published on Power BI through our application using embedding to our clients. Recently we have added functionality of Export to PDF and PPT. With my testing user it is working fine but on production is generates following error

{

  "error": {

    "code": "InvalidRequest",

    "message": "You have exceeded the amount of embed token that can be generated on a shared or ProPlus capacity. You need to purchase Azure capacities to generate embed    tokens. See https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=868976"

  }

}

As I mentioned I have A3 Capacity and the mentioned report is in the workspace which is already on this dedicated capacity.

We I switch this workspace to non premium (dedicated) capacity it generates following error

{
"error": {
"code": "InvalidRequest",
"message": "Report requested for export is not on dedicated capacity"
}
}

Can any one help me on this?

Hi all,

Hi all,

 I need some queries on Power BI license for following scenarios:

  1. A group of developers (e.g., 5 Super Users) build BI reports and dashboards.

  2. BI Reports and Dashboard should be shared with Management and Key Managers/Users (e.g., 40 Users)

  3. Client is exploring 2 methods
    1.  Share by Subscribe function in Power BI report as shown below

      SharePBI-1.jpg
    2. Share via Internal HTTP link function from SharePoint as shown below

      SharePBI-2.jpg
  4. In any cases, total Datasets will not go beyond 10 GB.

Please help to confirm with how Power BI  Pro licenses the clients need to purchase.

Thanks in advance,

Microsoft Mashup Evaluation Container - over 100 instances running on my virtual machine

Hello all,

     I have an instance of SQL Server on a virtual machine that is used as a source of data for our organization's PowerBI online service (pro license).

We use the PowerBI enterprise gateway hosted on the virtual machine to automatically refresh our PowerBI dataset.

After some time, maybe a month or so, I will have terrible issues running SQL Queries. When I log into the virtual machine where SQL Server is hosted, I see that all of it's memory is being taken up by several dozen 'Microsoft Mashup Evaluation Container' processes.
I am not sure what these are about, but I have to restart the server to end these processes and move on.

Can someone explain to me what these processes do and why they are multiplying on the virtual machine? I suspect it has something to do with the Enterprise Gateway and the automatic refresh?

Shared Datasets & Live Connect

$

Hello,

we are currently thinking about allowing the use of Shared Datasets. I would have aquestion about this..

As an PBI Administrator, I saw the option "Allow live connections" in the Admin Tenant settings.

--> Is using a shared dataset from the power bi service always a "live connection"? If yes, then my question would be what this means in terms of performance and load for the datasource?

We only allow the use of dataflows as "system-based" datasources in our organization. These dataflows are import mode, only. No connect to any other source than local source is allowed.

This means, a shared dataset can only be connected whether to a local source like csv or to a dataflow.

Can you confirm that this means we do not put any load on the database where the data comes from? Or does the live connection really "trigger" the dataflow to do a query (similar like Direct Query) on the database?

Thank you

Best Wishes,

Johann

Subscriptions - 4pm always late

$

Hi everyone,

There is strange behaviour with Power BI Service subscriptions - scheduled every 30 minutes in period 8am - 10pm.
But every day, subscription that is set for 4pm is sent at 4.30pm, sometimes 1 minute before subscription set for 4.30pm, sometimes 1 minut after.

I tried removing this subscription, creating it again, but it keeps sending at 4.30pm instead of 4pm. All other subscription are sent on time.

What might be the reason? Has anyone had similar issues?

Embed in Tabular Model in Power BI Service is not possible

$

Guys,

I have SSAS Tabular Model models that i need to publish to Power BI Service FREE.

I can publish normally, however, the option to create embed is not available.

Embed.jpg

I searched and found this limitation on the Microsot website.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/collaborate-share/service-publish-to-web

"Reports using any Live Connection data source, including Tabular Analysis Services hosted on-premises, Multidimensional Analysis Services, and Azure Analysis Services."

So I can't create embed for Tabular Model.

Does anyone know any other way to make these reports available to all external users?

Thanks

Is Single click drill through possible

Hi All,

I have a report that drill through's to another report, when you right click on the Main report it gives you an option to drill through to another report, all good :-), for users who are used to SSRS this is like 2 more steps. I know we can do this in SSRS, but is it possible in PBI , just to left click on the Main report data point and it takes you to another report?

Thanks

Log Analytics option for the Workspace - Disappeared

Yesterday I set up Log Analytics to a workspace and it worked like a charm.

I understand the feature is in preview.

Today it vanished as in the option is not even listed on the workspace.

yes, I checked and all the requirements are present: Workspace-level Log Analytics permissions (preview) is checked; the owner permission to the log analytics workspace to the pbi user and the 'microsoft.insights' resource provider is registered in the Azure portal for the  subscribtion.

It has not been disconnected and it does not even show for the Workspace setting in the Azure connections. I mean, there is only he Storage option no Log Analytics.

what gives?

Automate Dataset refresh in power BI service

$

I am new to power BI and my problem is very specific, so wanted to see if anyone has any ideas regarding my issue.

I am using power BI desktop to connect to my source data, which are in my company sharepoint and are csv/xlxs files. There is a separate process to update these files with new files in the sharepoint outside of Power BI. Anytime data changes, i can successfully refresh my data in Power BI desktop to reflect changes and publish the same to the Power BI service.

My question is, is there a way to keep the power BI service reports in sync with the changing dataset in sharepoint without having to publish the pbix everyday manually? My manager has only access to the Power BI service portal, and looks at report there.

I have tried creating a gateway in the Power BI service, where i provided my credentials for all the files and was able to refresh the dataset, but its a personal gateway running on my machine. If for some reason my system is not running(because I am out sick etc.) refresh fails. Is the other option for my manager to build her own gateway?

Thanks for reading through this and I appreciate any input on the same.

Extract tables from different planned refresh datasets to create new Power BI report

$

Hello Community,

I don't know if it is possible, but here's what I am trying to do:

I have built many distinct Power BI reports so far and I wish to cherrypick tables from these reports to build a recapitulative report that would use all of the table manipulations (merges and conditionnal columns in Power Query, calculated columns, etc.), so I don't have to repeat all the previous manipulations and hence, save time.

Many of these tables are results of merges of data coming from various data sources (SQL Requests, Excel files, txt files, etc.).

I have found a link that shows how to extract and generate and Excel file for every table contained in Power BI Desktop Report, using DAX Studio: Exporting Data from Power BI Desktop to Excel and CSV – Part 1: Copy & Paste and DAX Studio Methods (biinsight.com). This is great stuff, as you can use all these files to create a new data model from specific selected tables.

The issue is, these Excel files are only a "snapshot" of the last refresh of the Pbix dataset, so the underlying data of these tables (which I set a regular refresh schedule for through a Power Automate Flow in Power BI Web Service), will not stay up-to-date over time, because it came from a punctual connection between Power BI Desktop and DAX Studio.

What I would need is way to get the latest data from these exctrated tables without manually downloading and manually extract these dozens of tables everyday, which is unefficient and I don't have time for.

Would there be any ways to dynamically extract these tables from the refreshed Power BI Service dataset, so the data is continually up-to-date?

Thanks,

Datasource credentials in shared reports

Hey,

I work with few clients providing them with reports in PBI. For each client I created Big Query project where I store data and PBI workspace for reports. I use my credentials to pull data from BQ to PBI. My clients have viewer access to reports and use their own PBI Pro accounts to access it (as guest users).

However one of my clients wants contributor access so that he can also work on the PBI report. As I understand if I grant him such access after downloading pbix file he will also have access to other BQ projects of my clients (downloaded pbix will enable him to connect BQ using my credentials).

Is that correct? How can I limit his access to only his BQ project?

I tried to create separate gmail accounts (needed for BQ) for each client with limited BQ access but it seems that even if I change credentials in PBI Desktop once the project is uploaded my credentails are used. Moreover even changing credentials in PBI service to those associated with separate gmail accounts does not solve the problem (still my credentials are in use).

Any ideas would be more than welcomed.

Thanks!

Power Bi Service Refresh Failures

I have a dataset that I can refresh without issues on PBI Desktop but when refreshing on PBI Service it fails every time. I have reset all data source credentials and only receive the error on a PBI dataflow data source. The report uses three different gateways for sources other than dataflows and I have access to each source in the gateway. Any help?

This is the error I receive;
