Refresh Dataset - Source Dataflow

Hi Guys...

 

I have a problem, and a queston related to it...

 

I have organization and I created one Workspace where I make dataflows for my users, so they use it as source for datasets...

 

Dataflows are syncing regulary through gateway on my DB Server (every morning). My users can create dataset from my dataflows, but they can't schedule a refresh without gatweay credentials (that is what PBI says). I have an Idea not to give them DB access, and that is why I created Dataflows, so is there any way to set refresh to dataset, based on Dataflow source (no other datasources)? 

 

Other q is: If I take ownership of dataset, so I can schedule, will they be in position to reupload changed dataset (they maintain it)?

Export to .pbix no longer available?

We found out this morning that export to .pbix is not available anymore on report viz, has it moved somewhere else or is it gone for good?

Usage metrics report and Sharepoint

Hello all

 

Apologies if this has been asked before. I ask my audience to consume my Power BI reports by embedding them into pages on my Modern Sharepoint site, rather than the Power BI service.

 

I've recently come across the Usage Metrics report, and can't find it stated anywhere if the views from the reports embedded in a Sharepoint page count towards this?

 

Can anyone answer this?

Unable to connect to Dataset through Excel plugin

Hello,

 

Since Friday I am not able to connect to my dataset through "connect to data" Excel Plug in anymore. I haven't made big updates on my dataset (a few more measures and relationships) but I have no error message, it is just loading for... hours and nothing comes. The plug in works because I can connect to other datasets. Do you know what kind of changes on the dataset would have made the plug in unable to connect ?

Running Total Issue

Hi ,

 

Need help in creating running total column

We are creating report using Connect Live option - SSAS Tabular

 

I have report in below format

 

Category  Name  Sales  RTotal

ABC           XXXX   100   100

XYZ           AAAA  200     300

 

I need to get RTotal Column . i tried using Quick Measure - Running total but it didnt work stating MAx function can work only on numbers and not string (Category)

 

So need help for the same

Pls suggest

I have created a report and then published it to a workspace. Many users have access to this workspace.
I want to know who ( users) can refresh the dataset ? Is there a way to define a specefic users to update the dataset ?

Merge queries are not working after publishing the report

Hello,

I am merging tables , those are append Queries of SQL queries. Merging works perfectly fine in desktop version but after publishing, it is not showing all the records. I figured out that final merge queries are not giving all the records so it is not showing proper visuals. Please find the screenshots below:

First ss is Desktop and second is from Power BI service:

When I first publish it I can see the same report as per the desktop version but as soon as I refresh (scheduled or on-demand) i starts giving wierd results. Everytime I refresh it gives me wrong results. If I download that PBIX file and refresh it on desktop it works perfectly fine but again evenif I republish it starts behaving wrong.

I have set up the privacy level settings as 'Organizational' same on both for the datasources. But still I dont see any improvements.

Dashboard blank for all users

I have a scheduled dashboard that goes out Monday Morning at 8:30am EST.  This dashboard has been running for several months with no issues.  This morning one of my users was trying to access the dashboard and all she is getting is a blank screen.  I thought it may be localized to her but after completing the below troubleshooting steps with her I reached out to other members of the team and they are all having the same issue. I am the only one who can see the dashboard. I have made no changes to the underlying data, or report.  

 

Troubleshooting steps taken:

Cleared internet cache

restarted machine

closed and re opened browser

tried to view from a secondary embedded location

PowerBI Dashboard Azure SQL Database (DirectQuery) OAuth Access with Azure AD B2B Users

Hi All,

 

I am having this issue where when using an Azure SQL Database as a data source for a report in the PowerBI service, B2B users get a "400 Unauthorised" message related to an unknown user "NT Authority\Anonymous Logon".

error.pngThe scenario is that I have an Azure SQL Database hosted in the same tenant as our Power BI, however I would like users from another tenant to be able to access the dashboard using Azure AD B2B Guest Account functionality.

 

This is what I have configured in the connection (Server Name/Database removed), it works fine for users local to the tenant.

Does this functionality work with Azure AD B2B? Guest users appear to be able to authenticate to the database using SSMS or VS, so PowerBI definitely seems central to the issue. I am guessing that it has something to do with Service Principals/App Registrations but I am struggling to find any documentation in order to get this to work.

 

Any assistance or knowledge gratefully received.

Y Axis percentage

I have a built a Power Bi file where i have percentages on the Y Axis and it is reading from a slicer that has multiple options, when i select one option the gap between the percentages is 1% (5-6-7) but other selections it is like for example (5, 5.5, 6, 6.5) and (4, 6, 8). Is there anyway to solve this?

Dashboard tiles do not update

Hey,

 

as mentioned in the title, my pinned dashboard tiles do not update. The reports below are showing the latest data but the pinned tiles do not refresh and stay with the data when they were created.

 

In general I have one big Power BI-datasource where I have connected several data to, mainly csv-files. This datasource is connected to different reports where I created the user-reports including visuals. Both are published to the same workspace and from this user-reports I created some dashboard-tiles.

 

The refresh is done manually, as I download the new csv-files, update to datasource and pusblish to workspace, refresh user-reports and publish to workspace and last but not least update the app.

 

Any suggestions I can do to not pin all tiles each month again?

powershell - get report users

I have been using the powershell cmdlets to script some powerBI admin, but having a problem
is there a way to
1. Dump the Users that have access to Reports are
2. manage (add / remove) users from a report

There is some limited functionality for workspaces but cannot see anything for individual reports, any help appreciated

Time Intelligent measures transferred to Paginated Report

I'm working on creating a paginated report connected to a Power BI Service dataset.  I have time intelligence measures calculating MTD, YTD, Prior Year, All dates, etc. using a date table and a fact table.  When bringing them into a paginated report and using a cascading parameter for the dates that filter the fact dataset I'm not getting the expected result.  

 

Does anyone know how to do this?  For example, selecting February (2/1 - 2/29) for my start date and end date parameters would give a MTD value for February 2020, YTD for January + February 2020, a PY of February 2019 and all dates regardless.

 

For what I've got selecting 2/1-2/29 will only return the sum of the rows created in those dates.

Update Parameters in Group with Power Automate using Power BI REST API

Hi All,

 

I want to use Power Automate and the Power BI REST API to update a dataset parameter in a workspace, as there is not an easy way to manually update the parameter in the UI. The flow is not so complex, see picture below:

Up until now I have managed to have this flow working but only if I sent my own username and password hardcoded in the HTTP request, but this is not desired.

 

I've registered an app in Azure ADD to avoid using my credentials. I do get an access token but then the update part doesn't work, no matter what I try.

 

I get the following errors:

 

1 - "NotFound. ItemNotFound. Dataset XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX is not found". I get this error if the security group is not a member of the dataset.

2- "Forbidden. InvalidRequest. This operation is only supported for the dataset owner". I get this error regardthles of the security group being the owner or not

 

Steps followed:
1- Granted the registered app, Read and Write permissions to Power BI
2- Enable "Allow service principals to use Power BI APIs" in the admin portal. I'm using a security group and added the service principal as member of the group.
 
I think i'm doing something wrong but don't exactly what after almos 3 full days of failed tries.
 
Any help will be welcomed.

I am noticing a change in the header of applications based on Powerbi work areas, there is a very pronounced space that does not exist before
Any configuration to re-occupy all the space in full screen mode?

Test as Role per report

When I attempt to Test as Role in Security for a dataset, I no longer get the option to view per report. I know with the old version of the site I could do this. But on the new version, it doesn't allow me to go into individual reports that are linked to my dataset.

 

How can I test as role per report?

Dashboard - Lock movement of tiles

Hi All,

 

I need help to lock the movement of tiles on the Dashboard. As when the users are visiting the dashboard and if they move any tile it stays there which then mess up with the KPI's on the Dashboard.

Let users choose their report filters with "Subscribe" function?

Hello,

 

Is it possible to use the "subscribe" functionality of Power BI Service for a report letting users choose their filters and not mine (the report creator)?

 

It seems that, by default, the snapshot sent by email and the slicers applied are the ones I chose when creating the report in Power BI Desktop, which are irrelevant for the users.

Pinned Dashboard Tiles Blinking Like Christmas Lights

Last Friday my dashboards were working fine but this morning I come in and on every refresh the tiles blink instead of flowing smoothly. They are pinned tiles from a report and they are fed by a streaming dataset. If anyone needs to see what I'm talking about I can link you to one of my dashboards. Did Power BI do an update on Microsoft's side?

Refresh Power BI Reports with data in a managed instance / access without gateway possible?

Hi everyone,

 

we seem to have a severe problem with the gateway configuration in PBI Service.

Our data warehouse is located in an Azure SQL Database managed instance and can be accessed from the web via public endpoint.

If we build a report based only on data from this database (no matter whether in direct query or import move) we don't have to use a gateway:

In the tab "Data Source Credentials" I can then choose OAuth2 as authentification method, which is a requirement in our company and the refresh works instantly, even using the security profile of the report viewer in the database and thus providing data source based row level security.

However, things change, when I combine the cloud data source with a different on-premise data source.

Now, i have to provide a gateway information for every single data source, also for the one located in the cloud.

Unfortunately, when I try to define that data source in the gateway, there is no OAuth2 authentification method any more. Instead I only have the choice between Standard or Windows authentification method, none of which is working, because we don't use local named users in the SQL Server database.
