postgresql odbc woes

Hi everyone, 

 

I wonder if someone can help me I am trying to set up the on-premises data gateway to work with our postgresql database via odbc, the odbc connection is set up and working on the host machine (same as the gateway).

 

However when I try to configure the odbc connection on powerbi.com I get the following message

Troubleshoot connection problems

No matter what I try, I can not seem to get it to connect. Has anyone managed to get this working? What am I missing?

Remove Gateway Name

I installed the On-premesis data gateway on a server and ran through the configuration and created a gateway and recovery key. The problem is that I was logged on with my O365 admin account and I meant to create the gateway with my O365 user account. Of course if I now try to create the gateway logged on with the correct account I get the error that a gateway with that name already exists.

 

Because I want to re-use the name again is there a way of removing the named gateway I created using my admin account? I'm assuming the name gets registered in a config file or similar somewhere?

Connect to Excel Workbook - "Workbook already exists - This workbook already exists on Power BI"

When I try to connect to Excel Workbook on Onedrive for Business ( Power BI Service > Get Data > OneDrive for Business > Excel Workbook> "Connect" ), I get the following message, but it is not possible to find the report in the reports to the group:

"Workbook already exists - This workbook already exists on Power BI"

 



 

 Connecting and removing the report has not been an issue earlier. Anyone experienced this before?

Gateway connection doesn't respond (schedule refresh)

 Hi guys,

 

Have you already experienced behavior that you are not able to set up scheduled refresh? Geteway connection part of schedule refresh setting doesn't respond (see screenshot below). Even if I have datasets which have only online sources (doesn't need gateway), I'm not able to use "Connect directly" and click Apply. It throws error. Does anyone knows why it happens?

Power BI tile integration with Dynamics CRM

Hi,

I want to embed power BI tiles into dynamics CRM but i'm facing an error message at the step of signing in power BI from CRM:

Authentication wasn’t successful. You need to sign in to your Power BI account to view or edit Power BI tiles

 

Also, when I try to connect to a CRM environment hosted in Canada (CRM3) I got the bellow error message: 

 

AADSTS50011: The reply address 'https://port.crm3.dynamics.com/G/FirstPartyIntegrations/authRedirect.html' does not match the reply addresses configured for the application: 'e64aa8bc-8eb4-40e2-898b-cf261a25954f'. More details: not specified

 

Note that the first issue is on a US datacenter and the second one on the Canada datacenter.

 

I already set the system settings in CRM to accept the powerbi tiles.

Unknow Power BI Pro content

Hi,

 

I created a dataset using PowerBI Desktop. I'm using the free version and btw, I don't have any Pro version licence.

But I don't know why, since I published my dataset/report on Power BI service, each time I tried to access the dataset and/or report, I have the following message:

"To see this report, upgrade your account to Power BI Pro."

 

It's really strange as again I don't have and never had a Pro version. The dataset can still be refreshed (both manually & schedule refresh) but I can't see the report as I have this message all the time.

My dataset is composed of connection to Saleforce objects & Excel files (stored in a sharepoint). These elements can be used with a free version.

 

Does someone has any idea why I get this message or how I can identify the Pro content (so I can remove it as final objective is to share reports with my organization) ?

RLS in PowerBI using Scripting

Hi All,

I am trying to apply a row level security for a model having Employee -> Manager relationship. The report is a directquery to Oracle db due to sensitive data and security concern. Since, we don't have Oracle 12 client, as a workaround connection to Oracle is via linked server within sql server 2012.

 

I was able to succeed in demonstrating RLS and test it on web by following the steps mentioned in below link

As per my understanding creation and updation of the RLS can be done only through Power BI Desktop and not through scripting.
Creating a role for each Manager in a bigger organization becomes tedious task. Increases maintenance cost due to manual work of handling the roles once it is moved to production.

 

Please help me if there is any way to handle this RLS maintenance using some script within power bi.

Behavior Check: Refresh Data Model & Scheduleed Refresh Clash

Hi

We have PowerBi linked to Microsft Dynamics in the cloud using PowerBI Cloud gateway.

Automatic refresh schedule is set up and runs fine and has done for months.

 

Over the last week I have noticed a couple of adhoc Scheduled Refresh failures, and the consistant factor seems to be that it happens when I have the PowerBI Desktop Model open and I am refreshing that so that I can see uptodate numbers in the model.

 

The system refresh seems to clash, so the Scheduled Refresh fail, not helped by the fact the model takes more than an hour to update..

 

Has anyone seen this before? Is this normal behaviour?

Desktop to Service : OK but Service to Desktop ??

Hello,

 

I know that it is possible using the "Publish" function to push work done on PowerBI Desktop to PowerBI Service.

But it is possible to retrieve the work done on PowerBI Service in PowerBI Desktop ?

If it is possible, could you please explain how.

Project Online odata - recreate cumulative calculated field from Service in Desktop

Hi all,

 

I've created many different interpretations of this in Desktop, but *something* is ellusive in duplicating this calculated field/cumulative visual that comes standard in the Service version. I can see totals for each day, but cannot figure out how to get the running total, day over day, for the life of the project, to work. Can anyone help me figure out the DAX behind it, and/or what fields are used from the odata data model?

 

I have a separate table built for Date Dimension and it's joined to the various date fields in the timephased data tables.

Will the new 'Guest Access' for Groups in o365 help with sharing PowerBI Dashboards Externally?

Ever since I tried introducing PBI in my previous company, we struggled with sharing the outputs from PowerBI with our external clients - even those who were also on o365 and could already share OneDrive files with them, for example.

 

I happened upon this article the other day saying the external users will be able to be added to Groups.

 

Does this suggest that once fully rolled out, I'll be able to add an external user to a PowerBI group and share / co-author a PBI report?

Export data option (...) is missing

Hello

 

We have observed that the Export Data option (...) is missing from some of the visuals Table, Card etc., when we access the report by clicking on the hyperlink which is created in the text box.  If we access the report from Reports section, we don't see any issue.  

 

Did any one see this behaviour?  Is this bug with PBI service?

Streaming Datasets Cosmetic Bug

Hey team - 

 

I just noticed a cosmetic bug in the Streaming Datasets UI. Steps to reproduce:

 

1. Creating a streaming dataset

2. Include a variable of any type, but use a space in the variable name

3. View the sample PowerShell code

 

If there is a space in the variable name, the PowerShell code doesn't have quotes around the variable name in the hash table. This is syntactically incorrect.

 

I've attached a screenshot to show what I mean.

I cant send my reports to the web app because this error, i already sent a lot of times, i don't know what happen!

The error say STATUS 200.

Sharing of Power BI Dashboard and User Access

Hi All:

 

I need some advise on sharing of Power BI Dashboards. So in our active directory we have got a mix of users - some exchange enabled and some other not. Those who are not exchange enabled, have got external email addresses. But they are all part of the same active directory.

 

When we share dashboard with those users who have got external email addresses, they get notified in those email addresses as expected. However when they sign into Power BI (using the active directory username/password) portal without clicking the invitation, they see the following screen:

If they click on the links in their email, they can sign into Power BI (using the active directory username/password) and see the dashboard. Is this expected? Do they have to click on the link to see the dashboard?

 

Once they can see the dashobard, I can see the following on the Share Dashboard panel of the Dashboard:

The external email address is still shown as Guest while a new user with a blank ID/name is create that says Can view ....To stop sharing, that blank user needs to be taken off. Any further sharing of other dashboards donesn't need the users to click on the email links anymore. They appear automatically  in their 'My Workspace'!

 

I am really confused with this behaviour and any help will be much appreciated.
