Excel Workbook error on Browser Reload

I'm having an issue where if I hand out the web link to an Excel Workbook published to a Workspace, users (including me, the author) get a "Sorry, we couldn't find that Workbook" error.

If I navigate through the Workspace to the Report, it loads just fine.  If I refresh the browser, the error pops up.  The web address is the same every time...  This of course does not happen with standard Power BI Reports.

 

I want people to be able to bookmark this link and not need to navigate through the Workspace.

 

Additional Test:  I published it to the App and I'm able to refresh that link just fine, which looks more like below, however I prefer this report not be in the App and it shouldn't need to be either.

Cannot configure Dataflow credential (Bug?)

Hi All!  I have a Power BI report that is published to the service that was built by a previous consultant using Dataflows that connect to Dynamics back-end.

 

The consultant has since left but was still the owner of the Dataflow - which I have changed ownership to myself.

 

I then tried to refresh the dataflows and it prompts me to replace the credentials in the Dataflow settings but I cannot seem to update any of the sources except for the OData OAuth2 connector.

 

When I try to change the credentials and pick an Authentication Method I'm not given any options (seen below).  Is this a bug?  Or do I need to make some configurations elsewhere.

Currently trying to load up MySQL data set into Power BI.

 

Using the "Get data from another source" load option. I am getting this error. Not sure what issue is this if anyone can help.

Goals in PBI Service - Settings

Hi,

 

in a created goal, you can edit its settings. What effect will "Set tracking cycle" have on the goal?

If I select Frequency "Weekly" and "Monday", will the "Value" and "Progress" of the goal be updated only on Mondays, though the schedule data refresh has been configured for daily refresh?

Or does the visual under "Progress" only show data from Mondays?

What will happen to Pro License after moving to a new tenant

Hi,

 

Our team just moved to a new tenant. I've several reports & dashboards that are shared across my org. My question is, now that we are in a new tenant what will happen to my existing pro license and reports? Do I need to purchase a new license and republish the reports under our new domain name?

Why slicer search sometimes work & sometimes not & sometimes, it works again (DirectQuery)

Hi eveyone,

 

as we are currently asking MS support to actually fix the default slicer search feature (even after the recent improvements), I would like to give you a hint, why the slicer search feature may act weird.

The problem:

  • First, you need a case-sensitive database and - I guess - a DirectQuery data source
  • Then, let's assume you have the values "Example" and "ExampleFoo" as slicer values

First round:

  1. Open the PBI report
  2. If you search for "Exa" you will see both values
  3. If you search for "exam" you will still see both values
  4. Now search for "ex" ... you get nothing

Close the report and start over:

  1. Open the PBI report
  2. If you search for "exa" you get nothing
  3. If you search for "Exam" you still get nothing
  4. Now search for "Ex" and you will see both values

So, it seems to be erratic.

 

Actually, the problem is a case-insensitive cache with an "advanced" logic: If you search for a longer term ("Exam") than before, then PBI recognizes, that you already searched for a similar shorter term ("exa") which did not bring any results. So, it even does not ask the database again for the longer term.

 

So, each step from above can be explained:

  1. If you search for "Exa" you will see both values:
    Query request: As the search team case matches the database values
  2. If you search for "exam" you will still see both values:
    No new request: But as you already searched for Exa, the values are known
  3. Now search for "ex" ... you get nothing:
    No cache on this. So, we issue a new query request - with no results, as the cases does not match

Second round:

  1. If you search for "exa" you get nothing:
    Query request send, no results, as the cases does not match the database values
  2. If you search for "Exam" you still get nothing:
    You already searched for "exa" (duh!) with no results, so why should I send a new request?
  3. Now search for "Ex" and you will see both values:
    No cache on this. So, we issue a new request - getting the values, as the cases match

 

Currently, the valued MS support claims that it is a driver issue, but obviously, it is a problem of the visual (and/or the caching behind it).

 

  • IMHO, the best solution would be, if the search feature would search "case insensitive" and everything would be fine.
  • Alternatively, the search caching could be case sensitive. For a search feature this may not ideal, but at least, the search functionality would not seem to be erratic. To be fair: In case insensitive databases (e.g. SQL server, if not configured differently) your caching would be less effective, as searching for "exa" and "Exa" would both trigger a request (but returning the same values).

If you have the same problem (slicer search feature, case sensitive DB, Direct Query), please contact support and file an issue. Thx.

Power BI Incremental Refresh - Using Custom Queries to detect data changes(Polling Expression)

We are tyring override detect data changes behaviour by replacing default pollingExpression with name of custom polling query. Incremental refresh is faining once we replace pollingExpression with name of custom polling query or M expression refrencing another table.

 

Have you come across this issue or successfully implemented custom polling query of detect data changes feature?

Refresh error: Archive file cannot be size 0

Hi all,

I've suddenly encountered a scheduled refresh error that was working fine for weeks until now. My data is sourced from a Sharepoint folder and it does not seem like I'm pulling any files that are size 0.


Data source error: Archive file cannot be size 0.. The exception was raised by the IDataReader interface. Please review the error message and provider documentation for further information and corrective action.

Would appreciate some insights into this please, thank you!

Question about different license types for Paginated report

Hello Everyone,

 

I have a few questions about how can I use paginated reports for different licenses. I'm listing down various scenarios below:

 

  1. If I create a paginated report in a premium/user account, can pro users be able to see it?
  2. With premium capacity, can any pro members create a paginated report?
    1. If yes, does every member in the organization needs a pro license in addition to the premium capacity?
    2. If possible, can pro members create new workspaces and grant access to that
    3. If possible, Is there any limit to the number of members who can access without an individual license

ODBC - Incremental refresh - Dataflow

Hi All, 

 

I'm trying to implement incremental refresh in a dataflow, retrieving data from an  ODBC.

I'm following the steps from Guy in A Cube Link , but found myself stuck with errors in the SQL statement I refer to in my Native query.

They use a Datekey integer, but unfortunately my databse only works with DateTime.
If you can give me a tip it would be much appreciated.

Dataflow creation - csv File is driving me insane, need help !

Hello !

To give some context, I have a bunch of csv files that I load manually once a month from AppleStore, and I need to digest these files into PBI to do some reporting of all the app installs that happened daily per country. ( I shortened my file for the purpose of posting here, so that the issue I'm having is clear )


These files have the following structure :

The highlighted row 5 is problematic, of course a solution could be to manually delete the first 4 rows, remove the extra " ".. But, what I'm looking for here, is a way to do and automate this kind of transformation in my dataflow.

So that's it, I'm having a big blockage at this step.. Would really appreciate some insight from more experienced people here.

Incremental Refresh does not load newly loaded data

Hi, 

 

I've recently created a test report to see if Incremental Refresh works with PBI Pro connected to MS Blob Storage. The data is imported as .parquet file. There are two reports (exactly the same ones but one with Incremental Refresh and one with just Scheduled refresh).

 

The problem is that once the new data is loaded to the blob storage, the one with Incremental Refresh did not load the new data but the Scheduled Refresh report did. The steps I took to confiure Incremental Refresh are:

 

1. Imported the .parquet from the blob storage

2. Created RangeStart and RangeEnd parameter

3. Since there is no date/time column (but DateID column formated like 20210804), I've created a function that converts RangeStart and RangeEnd to match the ID column format

4. Filtered the DateID column and applied RangeStart and RangeEnd as the range

5. Implemented Incremental Refresh Policy for the table

6. Published it and set the Scheduled Refresh

 

Currently the data shown in the report is for 20210717 - 20210724, and after the refresh it should have changed to 20210717-20210725 but it only shows the data 20210717 - 20210724. 

 

My Questions are:

 

1. Am I doing something wrong in the steps to configure IR? Do I need Scheduled Refresh set up if the Incremental Refresh is defined before Desktop?

2. I see the warning sign when applying IR. How could I check if query folding does take place? Could this be why it's not working?

Streaming Line Tile does not refresh

Hi,

I have a dashboard with one streaming line tile and one streaming card tile.

Data source type is Web API. Dataset type is without stored history. Data comes in at about one value per second. The card visual updates correctly as a realtime time tile. In the line tile on the dashboard only the time axis is moving but the line is frozen. Strange things are:

- While resizing the line chart it refreshes as expected

- In focus mode the line chart refreshes as expected (except for rare case where the line does not appear at all, even after sever new values where sent to the API)

Behaviour is the same in latest Edge browser and Internet Explorer 11.

Do you have a solution to this problem? Do you have the same problem?

Viewing report as an external user with a Free license

Dear all,

 

I have a pretty complex PBI Service-related question.

In a nutshell: our company built a report for a client that has been shared on the client's PBI Service site by them. They shared the link of the online report with us and we could access it without any issues after entering the Premium per User trial period (currently, our company has Free licenses only). Once the trial period ended, we lost access and cannot open the online report of the client anymore. When trying to open it, we receive the following message:

Can we somehow sign up for another trial period? Would the report get available for us again if we purchased a Pro license? Is there no way for us to have viewer access without a Pro license?
