Having a bit of an issue with data refreshing when it shouldn't be. I've been looking online in various forums and haven't been able to find anyone else with the same problem, so hoping someone here might be able to offer a little insight.
I've created a tab on a pipeline report to take monthly snapshots of what's in the pipeline, and then compare MoM changes. To do this, at the beginning of each month, I open Query Editor in Power BI desktop and duplicate the original query, rename the duplicate to reference the report date, and then uncheck the "Include in report refresh" option on the new query. After applying the changes, I go into the Data view and use the Union formula to combine the monthly queries into one overall Monthly Snapshot table. I use the Union formula because I learned the hard way that appending a new monthly query to an overall snapshot query caused all of the previous data to refresh - even with the refresh disabled on all applicable queries.
This report is connected to the online service via OneDrive for Business. So here's my problem - when I refresh all data through Power BI Desktop, the monthly snapshot data stays static as intended. However, when the scheduled refresh hits the online service (or if I manually refresh the dataset online) the snapshot data updates online. So the exact same report is behaving one way on the desktop and another online.
It seems unlikely that I've missed a setting since it's performing correctly in the desktop program, but I'm not sure if this is a bug or a user error. Has anyone else experienced this or have any ideas as to how to correct the problem?
