Power BI Embedded : Can't assigned capacity (Azure A1) to workspace

Hi,

I've acquired Azure Power BI Embedded A1 capacity resource but I can't assign it to my workspace which I created with my Power BI Pro licence. The dedicated capacity button is greyed out. Do I need a premium licence?  I'm foillowing the PBI Embedded set up guide published by MS and the prequisites do not call out the need for PBI Premium licence.

Drillthrough not working in Service - Very basic example attached - please confirm

Hi all,

Since yesterday we have noticed that a new report being developed seems to be temperamental in offering the right click 'Drill through' option, when accessed in the Service, be it in My Workspace, a Premium App or Premium Workspace.  When I upload it to the service and right click on the value, nothing comes up at all, not even the usual options such as Include, Exclude or Copy?

However, the Drillthrough option works perfectly when in Power BI Desktop, just not when uploaded to the service.

I decided to create the most basic of Test reports - see attached, with a Summary and Detail page, linked by adding a measure 'Units' to the drill-through fields on the Detail tab, but this is also not working when in the service.

Thankfully, all my other reports which offer drill through and which are already in the service, continue to offer Drillthrough, just seemingly not this new report we are developing or even this Test report??

I would appreciate if someone else could try this test report and can see if it works for them in the service or spot where I am going wrong?!

Test Drillthrough.pbix

Many thanks

PowerBI SharePoint Web Part does not allow Drill Through

Hello,

I am unable to see the "Drill Through" option when I right-click on a Power BI visual in SharePoint. The Drill Through option is available and usable when I am in the Power BI service.

We are working with Nathan Adams from Microsoft who suggested that we raise this case. We are mid-stream a BIG business project which uses a combination of Power BI and SharePoint Online. This bug will be a no-go for the project and we will have to look at alternate technologies. Paul Shoberg from Microsoft can talk about the business value of the project and the importance of this feature.

Thanks.

PowerBi Pro - Incremental refresh - Time out error at first upload

Hi all

I configured incremental refresh on a report based on a transactions table with millions of records for which I want to:

- Keep records of the last (full) year

- Refresh data of the last 3 months.

I'm using an on premise gateway and Oracle database. PowerBI Pro license.

The setup of the incremental refresh has been done and tested successfully on a small portion of the data but when applying it to the full dataset I always get this error message after 2 hours, during the very first upload: Before the data import for finished, its data source timed out. Double-check whether that data source can process import queries, and if it can, try again.

Is there any ways to bypass this issue? A colleague suggested me to work with parameters on app.powebi.com in the page were managing the dataset but I see this message: Parameters haven't been defined for this dataset yet. If you want to set parameters, use the Query Editor. This is very strange because the I configured the parameters in the desktop application.

Can you please help me?

Thank you in advance.

Francesca

How can we hide "hide data point as a table" from selection

In the service, when I right click on a visual, I am seeing the option "Show data point as a table."  It may have always been there but I don't recall it.  Anyway, when I select "Show as a table"  I get a nice summarized listing of the values that correspond to the bars and this is fine with the users.

2020-03-04_17-59-45.jpgHow can we hide this choice.littletable.jpgJust the summarized data is fine which is done by Show as table.

However, if I select "Show data point as a table" I get very detailed records, not the non-aggregated records and the user does not want to see this.

Is there anyway to turn this off.  I have not been able to find anything.

Thanks!

Dawn

Hello:

i have two questions about the new PBI interface. Please see my screenshot

1) Currently when users open the app, the first report will expand all pages. (on my screenshot, USA Commercial Bookings report expand all pages). is there a way to unexpand the pages when user open the App? ( not manually unexpand)

2) is there an easy way to switch the two reports. so USA Commercial Shipments goes first and USA Commercial Bookings goes second?

Is it just me, or is the right-click option not working in PowerBI service?  I tried multiple browsers, and tried from multiple computers.  The option pops up on PowerBI desktop but not in the published reports.

How can I query a power bi dataset (published to the power bi service) from ssis?

Hi folks,

I was wondering if there is a way to connect to a published power bi dataset from ssis similar to the "conntect to analysis service" feature? So far, the only ways I have found all involve some kind of dirty hacking, which I would like to avoid... 🙂

Thanks for any suggestions,

How would you tackle the following scenario?

Hi folks,

I am currently trying to figure out how to achieve the following:

Let´s say I have a Power BI Dataset that is automatically refreshed on a daily basis using the enterprise gateway. There is no incremental refresh going on since we don´t have power bi premium. Now, I would like to historicize the dataset once a month, so that I can monitor how the results change over time.

I could also live with a solution that merely leaves me with monthly copies of the dataset, but the desired outcome would be the following:

On the one hand I have the primary dataset that has the newest data (daily refresh) and next to that I have a dataset that contains all monthly copies of the data with a timestamp of the refresh.

A third option would be to not historicize the full dataset, but only certain key results from the reports.

Do you have any ideas on how to achieve any of the outcomes described above?

Thanks in advance,

Nico

Dashboard subscription: Is there a way to get useful values instead of pictures?

$

Hi,

I'm looking for a way to be able to gather chosen metrics from different reports across different workspaces on a regular basis (let it be daily), to be able to create Executive dashboard with those numbers presented in a slightly different form.
What I came up with is:

  1. creating dashboards gathering those metrics (not available in app),
  2. subscribing to those dashboards to receive e-mails with snapshots of those metrics daily,
  3. storing PNG files from attachments in a SharePoint folder,
  4. Power Automate flow is sending those PNG files with metrics values to online OCR API which reads the actual values and add the values and a date to a new row in excel file

So I'm wondering if there is no easier way getting those values directly in usable form instead of a picture, for the process not to be such pain in the ass.

I was reading about how to reach to the values using Power BI REST API, but I have no time to learn how to use this.

Any help?

Shared Dataset is being connected to a report in personal My Workspace where user left the company

Hello Community,

We have a Shared Dataset in a Premium Workspace (new workspace experience) which is being connected to a Report in personal "My Workspace". However, the user who owns that personal My Workspace has left the company.

The Shared Dataset is considered obsolate but cannot be deleted due to having connection to the Report in that personal My Workspace.

Checking on the Workspace section in the Admin Portal, that Personal Workspace is still having "Active" status.

Q1: Is there a way to remove that personal My Workspace, or disconnect the dataset with the Report? (Not seeing that option on Admin Portal 😞

Q2: Is there a timeline, where the personal My Workspace will be permantely deleted after user left the company?

Thanks and appreciate any help on this!

Vanessa

Can I "Publish to web" without a Pro account?

Hi,

Is it possible to publish a report to web (publicly) without using my organization's account?

For example a demo report for what Power BI can do on public data, but not to be associated with any organization.

Thanks.

Users to create their own dashboard or control their home screen

I'm new to my company and there is a strong desire to consolidate dashboards into a single workspace such so they can create a dashboard to include tiles from all reports as an executive summary or senior leader view. This approach doesn't suit me as a BI Analyst because I'd have a tougher time controlling access to specific reports. RLS will just show blank reports if I used that alone to control data release. And it'll look terrible.

What would be great is if the user could create a personal dashboard.

Then they'll be able to take tiles from the reports they have access to and get to that information very quickly.

Schedule refresh with API requests

$

Hi PBI Community,

I am struggling with setting up the PowerBI Service scheduled refresh. My report is connected to a few SQL databases, Excel / CSV files, and has 3 API requests with dynamic URLs that have been converted to a function. These functions are then being invoked a few times from another 3 queries, for a set of pre-defined IDs.

I did some research and it looks like PowerBI doesn't quite support refreshing these web contents via Scheduled Refresh (it works perfectly fine when manually refreshed from PowerBI Desktop level). This is the message I am receiving:

PBI 1.png

So I thought, ok, let me be cheeky and simply disable these 3 API requests from the refresh queue. I went to PBI Desktop, right-click on each query > uncheck "Include in report refresh". However, after publishing the report back to PBI Service I am still getting the same error message ("query contains unsupported function").

Could you please advise if I'm going in the right direction? Or is it simply some unsupported functionality that will be developed in the future?
