Hi - help needed...  

We have a number of reports which connect to/from a Azure SQL database in our Azure environment

When we move the workspace that they are in to our Premium capacity, the reports are not able to refresh.

 

If we move the workspace back to shared capacity, the reports work fine again.

 

 

any ideas?

I have inserted a Power Bi tile in a power Apps screen. Now I want this tile to dynamically show data depending on information enterd in the Power App. How can I do this? Thanks.

Hi All,

 

I am attempting to refresh a report on the Service portal I published from the Desktop app, but I receive the following error message:

 

As you can see, I have set up a personal gateway connection, but the error message is quite odd since I am using the 32-bit 2016 Access (Power Bi is 32-bit as well) and I already have the appropriate database engine downloaded for it.

 

Any suggestions would be much appreciated, thanks!!

Having trouble getting my Apps to open. When I click on the icon it flinches, but won't direct me to the underlying reports. I've tried deleting the app and reinstalling it. I tried shutting down. Logging in and out. On and off. Anyone else having this issue?

Hey  Guys,

 

I have a filtered embedded URL which works great but the problem is that when tthe filtere is applied the user wont be able to go to the slicers within the report and change the option, it will only give the option of the filtered value within the slicer, is there a way that once the url is filtered the user can go and select other values from that filtered column or is this not possible

i use direct query in power service, connected to azure sql server.
i want to filter data by login user. i know, i can use RLS,
but i understand RLS just filters data in Power BI, not database site.

So i have get much data from DB site, before filtering it in Power BI by RLS.

that causes slow performance and 1 million record limit problem.
is there any way to pass USERPRINCIPALNAME to database as direct query parameter?

Hi, 

 

I have downloaded report from a work space and now from desktop i want to publish to different work space.  when i try to publish it always publish to original work space from where it was downloaded.  Why am i not getting list of work space from which i can select the workspace to publish. ?

Hi folks,

 

I've spent some time deploying the SCCM Solution Template for PBI a while ago. It's been mainly trouble-free. Nice! However I have come across data differences between the base tables that SCCM uses, namely pbist_sccm.computerprogram vs what SCCM SSRS reports display. eg. The pre-canned SCCM report:

Count Inventoried products and versions for a specific product uses 2 main datasets. These datasets use:

fn_rbac_GS_SoftwareProduct

fn_rbac_SoftwareProduct

Strangely, these functions use views and the views also use views ... quite a nested setup .... seems bizarre ... BUT in the end the query appears to source data from 2 SCCM tables:

SoftwareProductMap

SoftwareInventory

When comparing the PBI SCCM Solution Template code that populates the Program, ComputerProgram and ProgramInventory tables the code appears to source data from 2 SCCM tables:

Add_Remove_Programs_64_DATA

Add_Remove_Programs_DATA

WAY different! ..... Why did I have cause to check?

 

Well because when I was modelling data in PBI I was unable to return any MachineIDs when searching for IEv11...but since I'm contracting for a massive Fed Govt Dept ... which I know uses IEv11 ..... it clearly wasnt correct. Even my own WS has IEv11 installed.

Note .... the SCCM SSRS report (above) DID return data that contained reference to IEv11

 

Why has the SCCM Solution Template code used different tables to those used by in-built SCCM SSRS reports?

AND What does MSFT intend to do to rectify the issue since the Software Inventory report appears to be incorrect?

If you create a slicer using the Programs table the list is NOT complete.

 

I'm now slightly reluctant to accept other data visualizations that the SCCM Solution Template showcases.

Hi, 

I have a report with multiple pages.  One page has employee costs report for the organization and I want to provide access to this report only to the senior managers.  I did the following to meet this requirement. 

1. Create a role and selected the tables that feed data to this table.  Selected 'hide all rows' as filtering criteria. 

2. In the dataset security in service, add the users for this role and they will be restricted from seeing this report. But the problem lies when there are more number of users. Do i need to manually add each and every user to the security group for this role.   Is there any chance of selecting senior managers who are less in number and rest are all users should be restricted from accessing the report.  Something like 'Not' operator in the filter criteria. 

 

Is there any better way to meet this requirement.

one user get a message while opening a report "The report dataset contains row level security" but we didn't applied any security. The report is connected to the SSAS Tabular model.but other ucers having same access can able to see the report

I dont know what is the issue is?...User got this error message

hello, we have various users who publish reports and supporting datasets to the BI Service. however, when a user leaves, their accounts are disabled. So then we cannot refresh the dataset any more. which means we need to take over the dataset. This is very inconvenient in our corporation.

does anyone have a better solution than having to traverse all the datasets owned by the said, disabled user, and "take over" with the new user?

Hello,

 

I have created the Power BI Report from Excel file which is in my local server.

Just Note that I have not created Excel Data Model.

 

Now, I want to put Schedule refresh between Excel File and Power BI Online.

 

The Server which has that excel file has no internet connectivity.

The Gateway installed in the other server which has internet connectivity.

Both the servers are in same network.

 

It is not possible to put Excel file into SharePoint or OneDrive.

 

If it is possible to put Schedule Refresh, can you please guide me how to put the schedule refresh ?

Hi Team,

 

I have read some articles about PowerBI and MS Teams integration, but can't find the solution for this.

We have the below requirement now. 

 

-- We have created a "Premium workspace" and added few users as members

-- We have added the users directly at report level using share option, then they can see the reports in MS Teams without any issues.

-- Now if we use a "distribution list" at report level  instead of individual user accounts, then DL members are not able to see the reports in Teams. showing Content is not available.

 

If reports shared through DL's users can't see the reports in MS Teams?

 

Any restrictions to use "Distribution Lists" in Power BI along with Teams? Does all the DL users required Pro license to see the content in MS teams eventhough the workspace is on Premium capacity?

Hi guys,

When I am attempting to sign-in Power BI service, I encountered error and it redirect me to below page.

 

The environment I use to access Power BI service have external internet access limitations, and need to register domains to whitelist. I alread added https://app.powerbi.com/* to whitelist. And it looks all fine during the sign-in process. I doubt if there is any background web call caused this issue? Can anyone give me some advise?

Hi! 

 

I have recently started playing around with SVG in tables for Power BI and it works great! Also, when I upload it to the service it displays fine. However, when I wish to create a new report and use the same SVG measure - either in the within the service itself our in a desktop report that is linked to the dataset through the service - It displays an error saying: 'The result of a conversion or arithmetic operation is either too large or too small. Please try again later or contact support.'

 

Another approach I tried was creating the SVG measure in the new desktop report that has the link to the service. I got the same error. 

 

Does anyone have a solution to this?

Hi

 

I have created a report and it is a direct query report. It was working fine until yesterday when I re-uploaded it after making a few changes. Now one of my tables which has 18,000 rows, which worked before, is saying the query result is too large. I have another report also direct query and it has 31,000 rows and it works fine too.

 

I can;t understand why this has suddenly stopped working.

 

If anyone has any ideas, it would be very helpful

Hi

 

The small team I am in run the CRM system for the company. Its an MVC web app on an intranet. While we are a small team (2 devs and a BA/Tester) the application is quite large and holds a lot of data. We are looking to upgradge our reporting by embedding PowerBI into some of the pages inthe app.

The tech part we have followed and got somewhere but there still seems to be some confusion surrounding pricing. The company has 400 Pro licences but it seems we need some capacity to back the embedded part of things. So we have got on the A1 sku. This says up to 300 refeshes per hour.

 

Questions...

 

1) What is the difference between NOT having capacity and HAVING some for embedding in a company intranet, wil it still work?

 

2) Now that we have the A1 sku what is the implication if we go over 300 refeshes per hour. Right now we have no idea just how many reports we will produce and how ofte they will be refreshed. (Over 300 does it stop working or ddoes performance drop)

 

Anything you can tell me about these issues would be good.

Hi All

 

I have a Power BI report which uses a Custom Data Connector published on Power BI Service and I can refresh it successfully using the Power BI On-Premises Data Gateway (Personal) mode running on my PC..

 

I would like to move this to an Azure  Windows server for more resilience and reliability.

 

Is this possible and if so how should I go about it please?
