Organizational Credentials for utilizing a Dataflow

I've created a Dataflow that is being used in a Power BI model.  The person who now has to refresh the data now receives a notice that his credentials will not allow him to refresh the data.
He has a Power BI Pro Licence and he has Contributor access to the Workspace that holds the Dataflow.

I don't know what else needs to take place.

Monitor the use of PowerBI across all reports

$

Good day, all.

I wanted to know if there was a way that we could monitor usage (just basic access details) across our all our reports.

The actual goal is to basically look who is using the service in anyway, not down at the levels of frequency or page level views.

We've only got a dozen workspaces, with maybe 50 reports, so if there was some specific config or report to develop to monitor these collectively, then that's not unsumountable, as long as it's a one off. Alternatively, is there anything built into PBI Service, or even at tenant level to say that the PBIService was consumed by user X, Y, Z.

I know I can look at the last month of usage on a report by report basis, but I want a simple way to see who has accessed what without interogating each of the report usage metrics.

Does anybody have any clever ideas?

Many thanks in advance

  Neil

Dataset size issue

Hello,
I have some issues with Datasets' size for Premium Capacity P2.
I'm using Import mode and I got information that I reached my capacity 100gb.
But my Workspace settings show diffrent object size than Fabric Capacity Metrics (FCM).

The difference is quite big and doesn's make sense for me.
For example Workspaces and Datasets settings show 5700 mb for Sign Off dataset but FCM show 19.5 Gb.
Values in FCM seems to be correct because in total is shows 100gb but also it's weird as dataset max can be 10gb.
Does anyone know what i;m missing here?
Thank you!

Sharepoint source permissions

Hi,

Why can users view a report with data from a sharepoint site that they don't have access to?

I am able to build a report with an excel file held in sharepoint online, and I can share it with a colleague that doesn't not have access to the site but can still view the data in the report.

Report size issues

When I try to refresh the Semantic Model behind a report, I get the following error;

"Unable to save the changes since the new dataset of size 1484 MB exceeds the limit of 1024 MB. If the dataset is hosted on a PowerBI Premium capacity, you may also reach out to your capacity administrator to see if the limit can be adjusted."

However, When I view the report size (Cog Icon>Manage Group Storage) it shows the report as being 386MB. The report seems to work fine, with data that is largely current. How can the refresh, which will only be pulling through a small proportion of additional data, be increasing the size from 386mb to 1484mb?

Assuming that the dataset really is that big, I've seen this page with recommendations on how to slim down the size of the data. How can I see whaich of my tables are the largest, so I have a chance of making impactful changes?

Unable to upload excel files in my One Drive business account as Data source for Power BI

Hi,

I have an organization (business) account with a Power BI Pro license.

I need to be able to upload excel files to the OneDrive of this account because:

- I want other users (from my organization or not, if I give them access) to be able to modify these files remotely.

- I want Power BI to take these files as a data source in the cloud.

This is what it looks like when I try to upload a file to the One Drive from this account (Image 1). It just says error when uploading.

This happens if I want to upload or create any type of file except if it is a Power BI dashboard.

The licenses that appear that I have are only the Power BI pro license (Image 2).

Can't I upload files from One Drive because I am missing a license?

What license should I get to be able to do what I want?

------------------------------------------

At the moment I am using a personal account to update the Excel data sources for the dashboard but Power Bi takes this data from a folder on my computer. This folder is shared on a personal OneDrive and other users can modify the files, but I see that if my computer is not online, the dashboard cannot be updated in the Power Bi environment by another computer, since it is my computer that runs the gateway I assume. This is a problem since the rest of the users cannot depend on my computer being online so that the dashboard can be refreshed.

I have tried to connect to this folder via the web with Power Bi but it is not possible. It seems that the credentials always fail. I assume that this can only be done through an educational or business account?

The url in this case starts like this: https://d.docs.live.net/

Thank you.

how to specify the perspective in the connection string while connecting model deployed to powerbi

hello

is there a possibility to specify the perspective in the connection string while connecting to semantic model that was deployed to powerbi workspace?

i found this docs

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/paginated-reports/report-data/data-connections-data-sources-connection-strings-report-builder#bkmk_connection_examples

when i connect i go via Get Data -> More -> Azure -> Azure Analysis Services database

then in the popup i enter the connection link into server and the model name into the database

after that a popup comes up where i can select on the screen the perspective to which i want to connect

however id like to enter  perspective into the connection string either in the server box or database box

is this possible?

PowerBI desktop theme no longer being applied in the service

$

Morning,

We have had a PowerBI desktop report that has been successfully published to the service for the last few years, this is using the Acterys theme. When published previously the visuals and theme all stayed the same, as of the last couple weeks when this is published to any workspace the theme is resetting back to white backgrounds, the visuals have a different formatting and any colours in charts are all different.

I've tried following guides on how to set themes in the service via the JSON file but there's no drop down option on the edit button to do this. I've tried the following:

  • Deleting the report from the service and re-publishing, same issue
  • Tried publishing to my own personal workspace to rule out it being a workspace issue, same issue
  • Tried re-publishing to both workspaces via a backup of the desktop report file to see if that helps, same issue
  • Tried changing the colour on one of the report pages by 1 digit in the hex code to see if that would trigger the update, same issue

I've really run out of ideas on this one as the PowerBI service guides don't seem to line up with the PowerBI Fabric service options available.

Screenshot from the desktop to show the colours it should be showing, this is a cut down version of the dashboard with context removed so wont line up perfectly with the online version, this is just to give an idea of what I am seeing:

Dex8298_0-1727260418499.png

The same visuals in PowerBI Service, note the missing numbers in the bottom, theme is different all over and the pie chart colours are different too -

Any help is much appreciated!

Issue : with Configuring Data Source Connection in Power BI Service Using On-Premises Gateway

Hi everyone,I am facing an issue while configuring the data source connection in Power BI Service using an On-Premises Data Gateway. Here is the background of my setup:I have imported data from a PostgreSQL cloud database into Power BI Desktop using Import Mode by providing the database and server name, along with my username and password.I built a report in Power BI Desktop and published it to Power BI Service. Now, I want to schedule a refresh for this report, so I installed an On-Premises Data Gateway and am trying to configure the data source in Power BI Service with the same credentials (database name, server name, username, and password). However, I am unable to connect, and one thing I have noticed is that the OAuth2 authentication method option is missing in the authentication method dropdown. What I have tried so far:Ensured that the gateway is installed and running in standard mode.Checked that the PostgreSQL cloud database credentials are correct.Looked through the data source settings in Power BI Service but couldn’t find the OAuth2 authentication option.Could someone guide me through the following?Complete steps to configure the data source connection in Power BI Service using an On-Premises Data Gateway.Requirements for connecting to a cloud-based PostgreSQL database.Any troubleshooting steps to resolve the missing OAuth2 authentication method. Thanks in advance for your help!

Azure DevOps Git Integration from another Azure Directory

Hi,

MyPowerBI service is in a different Azure Directory than the DevOps repository and therefore I cannot see repository from PBI workspace. Same user is used to login in both services and moving the repository and the pbi subscription is not an option.

How can I make Power BI see a DevOps repository from another Azure Directory?

Auto Refresh Grayed Out

$

Hi,
Since Monday from last week (Sept 16th) I have an Issue with the Auto Refresh function in the Power BI Web version.
In summary: I cannot edit, enable or disable the Auto Refresh.

lzb_1-1727264764682.png

First, I use a cloud connection with postgresql, not a gateway one.
When I try checking for the connection, it shows as 'Offline'.

lzb_0-1727264673428.png

But the interesting fact is: All the files that have "Auto Refresh" enabled are updating automatically and, if I just select the cloud connection under 'gateways and cloud connection' and try to manually refresh, it works.
If I try to disable one of the enabled auto refresh, as soon as I update the page, it turns back on.

The cloud credentials are ok, since I use the same to access my databank on dbeaver.

I've tried creating a new connection, but it also shows as 'offline'.
But, if it is offline, how are the files set previously updating? How am I able manually update?

I've contacted Microsoft Support last week and they said that it was a known issue (even though I found no one talking about it) and it is supposed to be fixed in a patch released today, Sept 25th (Again, I saw nothing about it and so far no update).

Does anyone have/had the same error, or know anything about it? Or best, how to fix it?

Sincerily.
