Dataflow wont refresh

$

I'm new to dataflows and created one today for the first time, all went well but i can't refresh the dataflow at all.  Been reading other posts but not found how to fix this yet.

The dataflow only has two tables in it, which are from two different servers, with the first table joined to the other.  They both use the same gateway which is on and working fine.  I have been able to set up a daily refresh too but nothing will work.  The error message just tells me its failed, but not why.

Help!

Hi

The link from one report to another report in another app works fine, but it opens in a new tab.

How can I make it open in the same tab?

Unwanted outline for Shapes

Similar to https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Desktop/Unwanted-White-Borders-on-Inserted-Shapes/m-p/15 -

when exporting a report to pdf - either from the Service or Desktop, all Shapes in my report print with an Outline.

I am using the Shapes as Text Boxes - because the functionality is better - and I don't want any border / outline for them.

The Outline is turned off for all items but they still print.

I solved it by turning the Outline on and setting the transparency to 100%, but this shouldn't be necessary. Whay doesn't the Off selection work for the Shape Outlines?

Can't revoke access to the app's dataset (Power BI Service)

Hello!

I have the following case:

1) User 1 created the app and decided to give permissions to User 2 to this app with reports and dataset.
2) During the process of building permissions to the app (point 5 in documentation On Permissions: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/collaborate-share/service-create-distribute-apps) User 1 granted User 2 the ability to connect to the app's dataset.

3) After some time, User 1 decided to revoke User 2's access rights to the dataset, but retain access to the app.

4) In this case, User 1 goes to the dataset access settings (as written in point 6 in the documentation https://docs.microsoft.com/ru-ru/power-bi/connect-data/service-datasets-build-permissions#remove-build-permission-for-a-dataset-in-an-app) and has no ability to revoke access (as shown on screenshot below).

MicrosoftTeams-image (3).png

5) Once User 1 has granted User 2 access to the dataset via the app, he cannot revoke the access. Access can only be revoked by first revoking access to the app, after which access to the dataset can be removed.

Please provide a scenario where User 1 can revoke access to the dataset without revoking access to the application. We believe that it would be correct to organize in the settings of the application itself, so that it would not be necessary to go and change the settings of all datasets.

Thanks!

TSQL Query runs longer in Dataflow than in SSMS

Is there a reason why a TSQL query takes a lot longer (>15min) to run in DF than the same query in SSMS (~3min). The TSQL query is complex, consists of 4 large tables, table variable, scalar values, PATINDEX, INNER JOIN, LEFT JOIN, CROSS JOIN, CTE etc. With all these, SSMS gives the output in 3 min max. However, the same query runs in DF for more than 15 min and errors out.

Does nayone know why it happens? I was under the impression that PQWRY gives the output at the same amount of time as SSMS would do.

Migrating reports and datasets to a different workspace

We have a workspace that consists of dataflows, datasets, and multiple reports that connect to those datasets.  Recently, it was determined that one of the datasets and any reports connecting to it need to be moved to a separate workspace for security purposes.

I can't remove all members from the current workspace because they need access to the dataflows, which requires workspace Member access.  Unfortunately, this gives them read access to this particular dataset that we're trying to migrate.

I am able to save copies of the reports in question to the new workspace.  I am also able to download the dataset in question's PBIX file and re-publish that dataset to the new workspace.  However, I cannot figure out how to point the copied reports to the copied dataset.  The option to download the reports' PBIX file is greyed out, this might be because the reports were all created directly in the service instead of Power BI Desktop.  I have Admin access to the workspace, so I don't think that's the issue.

I feel like I must be missing something really simple here.  Any ideas?

Making a Paginated Report Available to an Entire Organization

$

I am having trouble making paginated reports available for users in my organization but I don't want to give them access to the underlying workspace. Currently, when a regular member of the organization tries to access the paginated report, a "could not connect to data source" error displays. The set-up is like this:

1) the paginated report and the underlying dataset are in the same workspace

2) the report creator has a premium per user license

3) the report viewer is a standard account

4) Paginated Reports are enabled in the admin settings

Any insights on the issue and how to fix it?

I have a relative date filter in Power Bi report.

When i create a paginated report from PBI, in the query it changes to fixed date filter.

How can I have relative date filter in paginated report similiar to Power Bi report

Paginated report filter query:

FILTER(

      KEEPFILTERS(VALUES('Date'[weekending])),

      AND('Date'[weekending] >= DATE(2021, 5, 14), 'Date'[weekending] < DATE(2021, 5, 21))

Get Refresh History for all workspaces via API

Hi,

On my tenant, I'm Power BI administrator and Capacity administrator. But I am not administrator on each Workspace.

I need to see all refresh duration of all datasets of my power BI (both premium & non premium), even if I'm not administrator on all workspaces.

I tried to get history refresh using the API "Datasets - Get Refresh History In Group", but it seems that I can not get history of datasets refresh  that I'm not the Workspace Administrator.

Is there a way to get all history refresh without being workspace Administrator? Because I'm Power BI administrator and Capacity administrator on my tenant.

Thanks for your feedback

Machine Learning Module returned default report not related to my data.

Hi there,
I uploaded a dataset in to a dataflow on the server about some customer sales and attributes of a customer that determine their average spend. I applied a regression machine learning module to this for 3 hours.

What is unbelieveable is that the report which was returned was nothing to do with my data at all and seems to match something to do with petals and irises from this website:
https://simplifypowerbi.com/?p=275

How is that possible that this could happen?

Rename individual servers of gateway cluster

Benefits of E5 for view-only users + Power BI Premium Capacity

$

I understand the benefits of PBI Premium. And I understand that to stimulate a data-driven work culture, anyone who wants to build and authorize Power BI reports needs a Pro license (which comes with E5).

However, I don't understand whether having E5 benefits employees who only consume dashboards and never build (in a scenario where Power BI Premium capacity is purchased). For example, the integration with Microsoft Information Protection, only the builder needs a license if I am correct, so there is no added benefit there from a view-only perspective.

Thank you!

MY SQL Refresh in Service

Hello I was wondering if anyone could give me a hand on something. I have a MYSQL database which I've connected to in the desktop totally fine but when I publish it I can't refresh. Can I use a personal gateway to do this and if so how do I add it as a datasource? Is the only alternative installing a gateway on a VM and doing it that way?

Cheers!

SSRS redirect to Power BI Service

$

We are migrating our reports from SSRS Report Viewer to Power BI service and want the users to have a seamless experience.

As some of them probably will never update their favourites, etc..we want the old reports to redirect to Power BI, to the new version.

I tried uploading a .url and a .html file, but it just downloads them instead of redirecting.

Is there a way to do this without having to create a blank report with a link inside?
