Enterprise gateway: "Cannot connect to the mashup data source"

Hi all,

I've been unable to properly use the enterprise gateway for about a month now so I could really use some help.

Failure message: Cannot connect to the mashup data source.

Underlying error message: 8/10 times: We're sorry, an error occurred during evaluation. 2/10 times: Microsoft SQL: A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - The specified network name is no longer available.)

On the latter message it does show which server (IP) is causing the error. It's from a specific IP but the server name varies between the ones used in the dataset. I don't see anything wrong with them personally.

What I have tried and didn't work:

- Updating the gateway

- Reinstalling the gateway

- Republishing and overwriting the reports

- Completely removing and republishing the reports

- Check server credentials and access privileges

- Limit every table to one row to see if model size was a problem

What does work:

- Refresh in PowerBI desktop

- Gateway shows online and good to go

- Refresh individual datasets with 1 source (also in Direct Query)

- Refresh serveral test reports with multiple sources

I have gotten some files to succesfully refresh after deleting multiple sources but it might as well be completely random because I can't pinpoint what exactly is causing the refresh to fail.

Some help would be very much appreciated!
